8 Frame Brussels
The number of frames used in the manufacture of a Brussels carpet to a certain extent determines the quality. Three, four or five frames are common, each frame holding 256 bobbins of yarn; so a three-frame has 256 X 3 = 768 warp threads, and five-frame 256 X 5 = 1,280 warp threads. Only 256 threads show on the face, the remainder form the back or stuffing of the carpet. Thus it will be seen that a five-frame carpet is much thicker, heavier and more durable than a four- or three-frame carpet. -

14 Roving Frame
This is one of the flyer frames. Usually it is fed with two intermediate bobbins for each spindle with a draft of 5 to 6. If the roving is to go direct to the spinning frame the hank or count of the roving is made suitable for the draft at the spinning frame to give the required counts in the spun yarn (see Flyer Frames) -
15 Bobbin And Fly Frame
A spinning mill term for the machine which draws and twists sliver as it is delivered from the drawing frame, and winds it on to bobbins. Generally three frames are used, known as Stubbing, Intermediate and Roving, and for fine yarns a fourth, known as the Jacking Frame, is used (see Fly Frames)Dictionary of the English textile terms > Bobbin And Fly Frame

16 Jack Frame
Roving from the roving frame is further twisted and attenuated on the jack frame, which is only used in the production of fine counts (see Flyer Frames) -
17 Intermediate Frame
After leaving the draw frame, cotton is passed through a' series of flyer frames each of which drafts the cotton and produces silvers which are progressively finer in counts in the following order; slubbing, intermediate, roving and jack frames. The intermediate is the second of the series and is usually fed by two slubbing bobbins for each intermediate spindle.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Intermediate Frame

19 Drawing Frame
The function of this machine is to improve the uniformity of the carded sliver and arrange the fibres more nearly in parallel order. The machine has usually four lines of drawing rollers which operate with a draft of about six or slightly more, and have six card slivers fed to each delivery, so that roughly the drawn sliver is about the same thickness as the sliver fed to it. With three processes of drawing and a draft of six in each case 6 X 6 X 6 = 216 doublings are obtained. -
20 Draw Frame And Lap Machine Combined
A machine sometimes used in place of the sliver-lap and ribbon-lap machines, for making comber laps directly from the carded sliver. Usually there are three or four deliveries per machine, each with 12 up to 16 cans of sliver. The slivers pass through four pairs of draft rollers, and are afterwards combined to form a lap for the comber.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Draw Frame And Lap Machine Combined
